Installing a Faux Wood Fireplace Mantel in 3 Easy Steps
Box Faux Wood Beams are polyurethane beams that are closed on both ends and are ideal for use where all four sides of the beams can be seen. This includes fireplace mantels, floating shelves, crossbeams, barn beams, and cathedral ceiling beams. Here we will show you how to install a faux wood mantel in just three easy steps!
Outwater offers various styles of box beams (each available finished and unfinished):
You Will Need:
Polyurethane mantel (a four-sided faux wood beam as seen above)
2 x 4 piece of wood
Screws
Drill
Optional: construction adhesive
Step 1
Mount a 2 x 4 on your wall. When installing mantels less than 6” high, you will need to rip down the 2 x 4 so that it will fit inside the opening of the mantel.
Step 2
Slide the mantel over the 2 x 4.
Step 3
Finally, put screws through the top of the mantel to anchor it into the 2 x 4.
You could apply construction adhesive on the edges of the mantel for extra security.
